Digital Micro-Laterolog (DMLL)

The Digital Micro-Laterolog™ (DMLL™) service is a focused-pad device that measures the resistivity of the invaded zone near the borehole. It is designed to work best when the resistivity of the flushed zone is much greater than that of the mud-cake. When used in conjunction with deep-reading resistivity measurements, the DMLL service can provide a good indication of movable hydrocarbons.

High-Definition Induction Log (HDIL)

The High-Definition Induction Log (HDIL) full-spectrum array-type induction logging service provides formation resistivities at multiple depths of investigation in freshwater and oil-based drilling mud systems. The combination of HDIL high vertical resolution and deep-investigating measurements with inversion processing allows for the analysis of the formation resistivity (Rt), flushed zone resistivity (Rxo), and depth of invasion in detail.

Applications

  • Formation resistivity determination
  • Hydrocarbon zone identification

Features and Benefits

  • Multiple depths of investigation - Defines invasion profile
  • High Vertical resolution - Improves thin bed response
  • Multi-frequency acquisition - Optimises skin effect corrections
Resistivity Logging

Resistivity and depth were the first logging measurements ever recorded, and instrument designs have evolved to address more challenging, complex reservoir environments. Today’s marketplace demands technology that can look even deeper into a formation and provide answers for evaluating increasingly thinner structures. Lorasco meets this need with several state-of-the-art resistivity logging services developed by Baker Hughes. EXPLORE

Rt eXplorer Resistivity (RTeX)

The Rt eXplorer (RTeX) multi-laterolog service accurately determines true formation resistivity in conductive mud systems and challenging environments, consequently improving water saturation calculation and reserves estimations. It uses a model-based adaptive borehole correction technique to overcome borehole variations and eccentricity effects in all measurements for multiple depths of investigation and high vertical resolution.

Applications

  • Improve thin bed evaluation
  • Identify formation fluid contacts
  • Define invasion profile for permeability indication

Features and Benefits

  • Four independent focused measurements  - Enhances radial resolution with multiple depths of investigation
  • Logging speeds up to 3,600 ft/hr (1097 m/hr) - Accelerates decision making - Reduces rig time
  • Adaptive Borehole Correction technique - Provides real-time compensated measurements
Compensated Neutron (CN)

Combining the Compensated Neutron (CN) service with a density or an acoustic log survey provides accurate porosity values, shale content, and lithological information. The relationship of the  measurements often makes it possible to distinguish gas zones from oil or water zones by comparing a neutron log to another porosity log or to a core analysis.

Digital Spectralog (DSL)

Measuring the discrete energy of each gamma ray detected, as well as total gamma rays, is the defining value of the Digital Spectralog (DSL) and combined Digital Gamma Ray (DGR) service. By separating the total gamma ray signal into its components, the DSL service locates fracture zones, identifies the lithology of subsurface formations, measures bed thickness, correlates zones of interest between wells, and makes qualitative estimates of formation permeability.

Gamma Ray Log (GR)

The Gamma Ray (GR) log measures the natural radioactivity of the formation being surveyed. The intensity of radiation indicates the rock type present along the well-bore . Our GR log has flexible analog and digital varieties that can be combined with other instruments, including downhole seismic applications. The GR log can be run in any liquid- or air-filled hole, either cased or uncased. In cased holes, a casing collar log can also be recorded simultaneously.

Nuclear Logging

Although rock recovered by coring methods is a foundation to formation evaluation, wireline data is more universally available for determining fundamental reservoir properties throughout the available open-hole interval or well construction section. Baker Hughes nuclear services, provided by Lorasco, offer an array of accurate formation density, porosity, and lithology information by acquiring neutron porosity, natural gamma ray spectrometry, pulsed neutron gamma ray spectrometry, formation density, photoelectric effects, and basic gamma ray measurements. The combination of these measurements can simplify porosity and lithology evaluation in difficult reservoirs.

Compensated Z-Densilog (ZDL)

The Compensated Z-Densilog (ZDL) service provides formation bulk density (Ρb) and photoelectric absorption index (Pe) data. These measurements allow evaluation of complex formations to determine their lithology and porosity. Because the photoelectric absorption of gamma rays depends strongly on atomic number, the measured values of Pe are directly related to the formation’s composition. The Pe measurement is not significantly dependent on porosity or fluid content, making it particularly useful in determining formation lithology.

Many earth science disciplines benefit from information derived from acoustic log data. Baker Hughes digital acoustic measurements, provided by Lorasco, gather full-wave, monopole, and dipole acoustic data that are used in petrophysical, geophysical, geomechanical, drilling and reservoir engineering applications. Our digital acoustic logging services provide quality compressional and shear wave data, including data from unconsolidated, low-velocity formations. Our acoustic logging services include simultaneous  recording of Stoneley wave data during field data acquisition. These services improve reservoir characterisation and petrophysical property determination to maximise well and reservoir productivity.

Well Geometry Instrument (WGI)

Large varieties of caliper instruments are used either as stand-alone devices or in combination with other measurements in all formation evaluation programs. The Well Geometry Instrument (WGI) measurement service addresses the most significant shortcomings of standard caliper tools: high-resolution calipers cannot acquire data while running in the hole, and instruments designed to work both directions do not acquire measurements with high-enough resolution.

Resistivity Imaging Service (STAR)

The GeoXplorer™ service provides high-resolution formation resistivity imaging in low resistivity formations drilled with nonconductive mud systems.

Carbon/oxygen (C/O) and pulsed neutron capture PNC Sigma logging modes provide measurements for water saturation. In addition, the GasView™ and FluidView™ services provide patented, industry-unique quantitative gas saturation and multiphase saturation measurements. The NEO™ service uses neural-network models to emulate openhole log responses using RPM data. RockView™ Slim (silicon activation) measurements provide basic lithology, frac-placement optimization, and gravel pack evaluation.

Well Integrity: Cement Evaluation

Cement evaluation tools ensure hydraulic isolation between reservoir layers by measuring the bond between the casing and the cement pumped in the well-bore annulus. Before final well completions are made, the zones being completed must be analysed for hydraulic isolation to prevent possible crossflow between reservoir zones behind the casing. Cement evaluation logs provide results to confirm zonal isolation and help you decide whether remedial work is required before any completions are attempted.

Segmented Bond Tool (SBT)

The Segmented Bond Tool™ (SBT™) service delivers the information required to confirm hydraulic isolation and determine whether remedial work is required before any completions are attempted, alleviating concerns of reduced productivity and well life span.

The SBT service quantitatively evaluates cement bond integrity in six angular segments around the casing. The SBT service can find and define channels in the cement annulus, avoiding the results of a poor hydraulic seal. Conversely, the SBT service can reliably find zones of uniform bonding within a few feet of casing. Under conditions where a short-bonded interval produces an adequate hydraulic seal, squeeze jobs can be avoided.

The SBT service offers significant operating advantages over conventional and pulse-echo tools due to its insensitivity to heavy or gas-cut borehole fluids, fast formations, temperature and pressure variations, and moderate tool eccentering.

Production Logging Tool (PLT)

Production logging services are necessary for a full evaluation of static and dynamic conditions of the reservoir.

Real-time, depth-correlated production data, including flow rates, pressures, and gas/oil/water ratios, provide input for pressure transient and nodal well test analysis and reservoir simulation.

Using these key production parameters, it is possible to evaluate drilling and production operations at the wellsite and to diagnose potential problems such as water or gas breakthrough, crossflow of thief zones, and channeling.
